I like how the author does not reveal much about what is going on in Hercule Poirot's mind and causes me to wonder what will happen next. She makes me curious and want to keep reading. Agatha Christie is very good at making people thinkes me to keep guessing at who committed the crime. However, the story does get a bit confusing because so many events occur. I get lost sometimes and have to retrace the story one or two times. Agatha Christie never fails to surprise me at the end of the story. There are so many twists that I could have never thought about. Sometimes, I think that she could have committed the perfect crime and not get caught.

Journal 3 Personal Connections

I connected with this book when I read about being at the dentist. I was very scared of dentists when I was younger because I went there quite often and had painful experiences. While reading, I found out that some characters are afraid of the dentist chairs too. The main character, Hercule Poirot, and another character, Alistair Blunt, were both well known people but they still were afraid of dental appointments. This reminded me that no matter how great people become or famous, they will be scared of something.

Journal 2 Good Beginning

I like the beginning of my book because the suspense picks up well from the start. Already in chapter two, Dr. Morley, a dentist, is dead. At the moment it seems to look like he commited suicide but no one can think of a reason why he would. So, the case begins to try to figure out what happened. I like stories that have a strong beginning because it makes me want to keep reading the book. It is very difficult for me to keep reading a book if the beginning is not funny, attention-grabbing, or suspenseful. There was not anything interesting in the first chapter but it got me used to the names and figure out who is who somewhat. I am eager to find out what exactly happened to Dr. Morley and curious how Agatha Christie will surprise me at the end of the story.

Journal 1 Prereading

The title of the book I chose caught my attention because it was part of a rhyme. The title is One, Two, Buckle My Shoe but it is also known as The Patriotic Murderers and An Overdose of Death. The front cover also caught my attention because there are pictures of a dentist chair, high heels, and a treasure chest. The blurb on the back of the book is interesting because it gives enough information about the story to get the reader interested.

I think the book will be about a doctor who was killed by a patient of his. The patient set up the scene to look like the doctor committed suicide. I also think that the rhyme has a deeper meaning and is connected to the case.
